| Thor was inspired by Thor Ballylee near Gort, County Galway. Yeats made his home there for many years. The Black and Tan were said to have come looking for him but he was away at the time. This painting was done from memory many years after I visited the site. I was impressed by the number of Yeats first additions on display. I could understand how it would be enjoyable to write within those walls. The views from the top were spectacular. Music: Morrison's Jig |
Thor BallyleeA small keep near GortLooks as though an old Norman fort Yeats lived there with his family In the comfort of Thor Ballylee His chances would have been terribly slim When the Black and Tans came for him But he'd gone off and was away To live for another day or so they say |
